i have been taking meds to help. but they dont always stop the dwelling, flashbacks, anger, guilt and sometimes the depression. as i dont have anyone to talk to concerning some of my experiences, i have turned to VOVC on FB and now this forum, hopeing i can get things off my mind, as they say talking helps. i am no longer in a violent situation, and with agoraphobia, i find myself alone with my thoughts more often then i would like to be.

chelle im so sorry you are still experiencing all of this. I know it is hard I myself was the victim of a shooting and suffer from PTSD depression and anxiety. It can be overwhelming with the flashbacks being triggered by things unexpectedly such as in my case a car backfiring. Is there anything you have found that helps in these situations?

loud trucks and confrontations would trigger things. i grew out of the sound of the trucks when i knew the man was in jail. but he is do to get out anytime now and i find myself starting to listen again. stopping fear from being a trigger is not something i have figured out. getting away from the violence and having someone around that is not confrontational has helped with the flashbacks, however, i have to avoid my step daughters fb as she likes to post things that brings back the anger of the last incident (unrelated to the prior mentioned one) and sparks unnecessary arguing.

Chelle. Im glad some things have gotten easier for you. Im sorry your step daughter has to make things worse for you. I pray that when he gets out he will be smart enough to leave you alone and move on. I have heard the emdr therapy helps with ptsd symptoms

I've gotten pretty good at controlling my PTSD by taking deep breaths and thinking of a happy place, but sometimes that doesn't work and all I can do is get away from what is triggering my PTSD
